NYC, NY

A couple of weeks ago I had a very quick visit to New York. It intially began as a trip to see a live podcast show of All Killa No Filla (yes I love podcasts about serial killers & if you haven't listened to this, do it now), then turned into me also being a guest on a podcast (Past Your Bedtime) and then finally seeing my husband's band in Brooklyn! I love New York!

As this was a quick trip, I decided that I would use this time to visit my favourite places and finally get to try a certain GF restaurant, that I somehow kept missing... Senza Gluten.

I was in NY for about 36 hours, but managed to fit a lot into such a small amount of time & I already can't wait until I go back again...

Friedman's

There's only so many times I can tell you, you need to go to Friedman's. So if you haven't been yet, why haven't you?!!! The obvious first stop I made in NYC was this place, to get me a fried chicken sandwich! The accompaniments have changed slightly since last time (no kale coleslaw or habernero honey) but there was a spicy aioli on top & well, the star of the show is the chicken, so the pieces that come with it don't really matter. I could eat the coating by itself for days, probably months. The fries here are also so bloody good, so make sure if you're going wild on the sandwich, don't forget the fries - they're worth the extra calories. So is their ketchup - I have NO idea why it's so good, but it truly is. If you're not sold after all that, then I don't know what else to say!

Senza Gluten

Well, let's just say it was about time that I got to eat here!
On Friday I was a guest on a podcast (as mentioned above) and because we were having such fun we ran over by at least a couple of hours! This meant instead of our original reservation of 7pm we somehow didn't make it to Senza until about 9pm! I hate eating late, but I wasn't about to not eat here again (last time we had to cancel due to being horrifically hungover!) I wanted to try a few dishes but after seeing the prices I realized that probably wasn't possible, so  I opted for the Fettuccine alla Bolognese, because we all know my love for this dish. I definitely was NOT disappointed. Holy smokes it was delicious! I wasn't even hungry when we went & I couldn't help but pretty much eat the entire dish. I couldn't recommend it more. I almost switched out fettuccine for rigatoni, but was so glad I didn't.

My friend Caitlin is a veggie so she went for the vegetarian lasagna and that too was hopelessly beautiful. I love being able to try other people's dishes!!! For dessert we shared the Torta al Cioccolato (molten chocolate cake with creme anglaise & ice cream) and it was heavenly. It tasted exactly like a standard molten cake, I couldn't believe it was GF! I would have loved to also try the Panna Cotta or the shortbread, but I know I'll definitely be coming back, so I left it until next time! Overall, everything we ate was so delicious and so more-ish. I could've eaten bowls of pasta for days. My only gripe is that it does seem expensive for what it is, so if you're on a bit of a tighter budget then perhaps head there for lunch because I think it's slightly cheaper at that time!

(Of course the restaurant was very, very dark so all images definitely don't show off how wonderful it all was, but hopefully you get some of an idea!)

Don Antonios

Don Antonio's is another one of the places that I always try and visit when I go to NY. After watching the live podcast show on Saturday my friend & I headed straight here to grab the BEST pizza in NY (seriously, even Guy Fieri's visited here & left his mark on the wall!) before heading to Brooklyn. If you're looking for pizza that still bends and stretches like normal, this is the place for you. You seriously cannot tell it's GF and we all know when you can't tell, it means something is going very, very right! I ordered the same pizza I got last time (the Diavolo) and added a drizzle of chili oil. I was smart and only ate half, taking the rest with me to eat later on! Please visit here - it's worth it every.single.time.

NoGlu

Lastly on this visit, was Noglu! I was actually desperate to visit here again because I wanted to try their croissants but once again I was too late. I'm sure if I had asked they would have had more to hand out but the display was empty so I went for some key choices instead. When I was here last I wasn't eating chocolate because of Lent, so this time the first thing I picked up was the eclair! It was filled with a chocolate pastry cream and reminded me just how wonderful eclairs can really be - God I'd missed them! I also grabbed a juice (because it's me), a cream puff & a lemon meringue tart, which I knew were winners from last time. I would love to eat brunch here at some point to try out the rest of their menu! Let me know if you've eaten here before for real food!

This past week I was in Cyprus and the UK so will be doing an update blog on that over the next couple of days and this week I'm joining Caleb on tour so will be hitting a few states and providing info on everything I find! Hope you all have a great week!
