London, UK

"Back to the UK so soon!?", I hear you cry. Well, yes. Just two weeks after getting home to America from our Christmas trip, I was back on the plane heading to watch my husband play Wembley Arena! So, while I was there I took another opportunity to test out some more small bits and finally head back to where I grew up and see what treats Broadway Market had to offer.

Before I talk about England, I have to talk about my flight over. I usually don't fly American (because I really don't like them) but the flight was cheap and I just went for it. Well, it began badly when they didn't have my GF meal for me. Although having two seats to myself, and having an amazing air stewardess I'm honestly so sick of airlines forever not having food for me, even when it's been requested. Luckily, things changed when they had a spare GF meal going & blimey it was delicious!I'm forever trying to tell airlines that they should just do GF pasta for the meal, because it makes way more sense than a piece of dry chicken & rice, and this is why I suggest it - because GF pasta is cheap and frikin tasty!  It was cheese ravioli with roasted red pepper sauce and kale. And for the first time ever, I ate the entire thing.

On the Saturday morning before the show, I decided to head to Hackney and pay a visit to Broadway market. I'm forever seeing people on my GF instagram talk about all the food they pick up there and finally being in the country when it was on, I jumped on the overground. Whilst in Hackney I paid my old next door neighbors a visit and also saw my old house which I haven't seen in years and years. It felt really nice to be back and walking around and have a ton of memories flood back. Broadway market, of course, has changed a bunch since I lived there. I swiftly found the two bakeries I was there to visit and bought a whole bunch of goodies.

Floris Bakery

First stop Floris. I had seen so many posts about these guys that I had to try what they were offering. (I was also warned against them too by a friend, but I decided I was going to make up my own mind!) I bought two custard donuts (I've never been a huge fan of jam ones), a scone with jam and cream and an apple turnover. Well, the donuts were a lot smaller in life than I thought they were going to be and I didn't love them. I think for once I should've had a jam one(!) because the custard was a little too odd for me. The donut itself was a good texture, it was just the custard that wasn't quite making it for me. The scone on the other hand was SO delicious, I could've eaten another one, or two. I will say that the next day the texture was a little more gummy, but it was still really really tasty and I'm happy I took the plunge.

The last thing I bought was an apple turnover. I used to LOVE eating turnovers when I was little and let out a bit of a squeal when I saw they were there to buy. The pastry was flaky, sugary and crisp. The filling was sweet and yummy, however there were also raisins in there! I don't mind a raisin every so often, but I felt like they should've mentioned that as I know a lot of people hate the little things.

All in all, a positive experience with Floris. I'd love to have been able to try more and more of their stuff. I would suggest going for the turnovers and avoiding anything with custard.

Eat 'n' Mess

Second on my list was Eat 'n' Mess. This place isn't "known" for any particular item so I was wondering what I'd find that day! Everything looked great, but I went for a S'mores Cheesecake Bar and a piece of Rocky Road. I would've bought more, but I figured there was only so much I could eat (especially as I still had chocolate twists from Selfridges too ha!) The S'mores bar was a great creation. The base was crumbly, and the middle layer was extremely chocolatey and yummy. I didn't love the marshmallow topping, but it still worked well to create a whole piece! The Rocky Road was also awesome, although I feel it was missing fruit pieces? (Doesn't RR usually have fruit in it?) They must've had a lot marshmallow in stock this week because RR also has that as a key ingredient, but it worked really well with the crisp biscuit pieces in the bar.

Loved this stall and the guy serving me was really lovely. I would definitely recommend visiting these guys. I would love to go to their actually shop, so hopefully next time I can!

Home

On my last night in England, I decided to have a "beige" dinner with my parents. They're not fans, but they like to join me eating things I don't get to eat anymore. So, I got chips from the chip shop, and from the freezer I had mini chicken kievs and jalapeƱo peppers from M&S (at Christmas I put a bunch of stuff in my parents freezer exactly for night's like this.) I also had Tesco Garlic Dough Balls.

Everything was really enjoyable, although I didn't think the jalapeƱos tasted of much. My mum loved them, but to me they were lacking seasoning. The finger food in England, as I've said before, is far superior than over here and I miss it terribly! I still have some pieces in my parent's freezer for my next visit! How exciting!

Also, just wanted everyone to know, I definitely got a Pizza Express this time! Yay! It was delicious as always and just perfect for one of my last night's in the country for a long time. In a few weeks I head back to where I got married - Kauai, Hawaii! If you have any suggestions for the island, let me know!
