My last visit to the UK was in July, but I never got around to writing about a few of the cheeky little finds I found in the supermarkets. Last time I did product reviews from the UK I focused solely on one shop, but this time I visited a few just to check out what small bits they offered. I will of course do more of an in-depth review on each of them in the future, but here are some little treats I found. First up is Sainsbury's...
Sainsbury's

The
Sainsbury's I visited actually had a terrible GF section (and I'm not sure they're ever much better in different locations). The area was very small and didn't really have anything I hadn't seen before (e.g bread, rolls, wraps). It pretty much offered very little for the GF life, other than the usuals...until I spotted something very special indeed - Free From Sticky Toffee Pudding!

I had recently been looking up recipes to make my own Sticky Toffee Pudding for the autumn but as it was here (what a coincidence), I thought it would be rude not to buy it, and eat the whole thing! It was delicious. It tasted exactly like my memories of a steamed pudding, and there was plenty of toffee sauce pouring over it, it was exactly the type of Sticky Pudding, I had memories of. I (of course) added some cream (because I'm terrible), and the combination was an absolute winner. I would definitely recommend this - I honestly couldn't even tell it was GF, which to me, makes it a success. I now (kind of) forgive Sainsbury's for having that laughable selection for coeliac sufferers!
Waitrose

I just need to tell everyone right now that what I found in
Waitrose was well, unbelievable. I let out a yelp of excitement when I saw them (my friends can vouch for that) and I could hardly wait to try them that I ripped open the packet. It was... the mighty chocolate croissant!!!! In my rush to try them, as I said, I ripped open the packet and ate one there and then in the shop. I used to love eating cold uncooked chocolate croissants (as I'm a weirdo), but this time it wasn't a good idea. It was extremely dry, and after the disappointment, I decided that it would be better to heat one up to see if it would change my experience and it did! They are beautiful! Crumbly, chocolatey and flakey, they are not as soft or buttery as a standard Pain Au Chocolat, but if this is my replacement, I will happily take it. I also found standard croissants and they were absolutely delicious with a heap of jam on them. I wish I could have these every morning! I mean, if the creator of these treats,
Genius, want to send me packets upon packets of croissants, then I will easily take them, no questions asked! I can't believe it took me so long to discover that Genius made these, I'm not sure if they're a new addition, but if you see them, buy them, buy them, buy them! (Side note: they also had them in Sainsbury's!).
After the magic of the croissants, I also found a couple more gems in the Waitress shelves. Replacements for Twix by
Schar (tastes OK. Reminds me more of a Rocky Caramel, remember those!?) and KitKats by Baker's Delight (these are GREAT, I wish I had bought a few packets of these)! I'd recommend buying the latter out of the two.
Tesco

My last supermarket post was solely about
Tesco (they do a great job for us -
read here), but this time I picked up a new item - Finest Free From Millionaire's Shortbread. And it was really. firkin. good. Not too sweet, crumbly and the perfect bitesize pieces, I'd definitely buy them again. However, I actually make my own Millionaire's Shortbread at home and I give a much bigger portion of homemade caramel on mine (because more caramel is always better), but for ease theses are a great pick up. I will be sharing my recipe of Millionaire's Shortbread this week, so keep an eye out for that!
P.s Last, but not least, I finally bought myself some GF Chocolate Hobnobs by McVities! Personally, I prefer a chocolate Digestive (not yet available), but if Mcvities are giving this a go, than it can only get better! And they are....GREAT. Perfect for dunking in a cup of tea (if you're that way inclined).
